EASY & DELICIOUS

Ahhhh…. Spring Rolls! It’s everyone’s favorite. Whether it’s deep fried or fresh, it has that great appeal as an appetizer or a meal itself.

My Mom used to make the best spring rolls on special occasions. It’s a lot of hard work but putting the love in it while making it will be greatly appreciated after one bite.

A fair warning, one spring roll is not enough. It usually is the first to go at parties. You’ll get hooked!

You can add mushroom or shrimps from this base recipe. Get creative and have fun with it.

For dipping sauce, you can use Plum Sauce or Sweet Chilli Sauce which are readily available in grocery stores. Traditional Filipino dipping sauce consists of Vinegar, Sugar, Fish Sauce and fresh chillies.

Ingredients:

  • 2 lbs Ground Pork
  • 2 ½ tsp Garlic Powder
  • 2 ½ tsp Onion Powder
  • 1 ½ tsp Salt
  • 1 tsp Ground Pepper
  • 2 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 3 tbsp Soy Sauce
  • 5 stalks Green Onions (finely chopped)
  • 1 grated Carrot
  • 1 egg
  • 1 or 2 packages of Wonton Wrap (It’s already pre-cut and easier to use for wrapping.)
  • 1 cup Cooking Oil

Directions:

  1. In a big bowl combine all first 11 ingredients in a bowl and mix well with your hands. Refrigerate for at least 3 to 4 hours to marinate flavors together.
  2. Prepare the dipping sauce by mixing all ingredients together in a small bowl and set aside in room temperature.
  3. Prepare your wrapping station with a full size plate and a small bowl of water. The water will act as your paste in sealing the spring roll.
  4. Take one wrapper and place it on the plate in a diamond shape. With the tip of your finger, dip your finger in the water bowl and moist the edges of the wrapper.
  5. Scoop a teaspoon of meat and place it in the middle of the wrapper. From the end tip of the wrapper start rolling halfway to middle. Grab the two side tips and fold to the middle and continue rolling. Set aside. Repeat same steps.
  6. Heat a deep pan with cooking oil on medium. When it’s hot enough, drop in the spring rolls and cook for 3 – 4 minutes until wrapper is golden brown. Take out cooked spring roll and let it sit in a plate lined with paper towel to absorb excess oil.
  7. Serve immediately with the dipping sauce of your choice. Enjoy!
