FINANCIALLY YOURS
By Nicky Felipe

It is a great opportunity for me   to write for Metro Van Independent Media and to reach out to as many readers as possible for the purpose of educating people at different life stages on different relevant personal finance topics.

Let me introduce myself first to you before I discuss what to expect on my succeeding financial column   I’m a Certified Financial Planner, a Debt Consultant, and Retirement Lifestyle e Coach for 11 years and a founding member of Financial Planning Foundation.   As a practicing Certified Financial Planner, there were  varying financial problem uncovered, financial  opportunities discovered, financial myths clarified, financial behavior changed,  financial solutions recommended, and financial strategies implemented.

I firmly believe that a financially literate society will positively impact the future economic and social well-being of our country.  It is in the hope of sharing my accumulated years of experience that readers will learn to be more proactive with their personal finance.

Personal finance covers a wide range of topics.  I will present each topic as simply and as clearly as possible from both technical and behavioral perspective. I will give at least one tip or take away action plan to improve your personal finance. Topics will range from how to write your financial goals, financial planning, budgeting, debt management, risk management, wealth accumulation, wealth preservation, retirement planning, estate planning, financial issues with divorce, senior issues, insolvency, etc.

Your financial success lies in your hands.  It’s your choice to stay informed and take control of your finances or be complacent and stay apathetic with your finances.  The latter attitude usually results to a more stressful and difficult life.  Studies indicate that behavior towards money contributes to 80% success to achieving financial goals and 20% can be attributed to the financial plan.  This is similar to the old proverbs saying that “You can lead a horse to the water but you can’t make it drink”

Life is all about having choices—and having choices and well written financial goals is what leading a successful and satisfying life is all about.

Watch out for our next issue tips and strategies as you re-examine and restructure your finances   for a less stressful life.
