Local Filcan skytrain advocate wins Top Honour

Surrey Now Leader Newspaper Community Leader Awards honoured outstanding community builders, volunteers and advocates. The award ceremony was held at Sheraton Guilford Hotel on November 16, 2017 and hosted by former awardees Steve Dooley and Rachel Nelson.

Amongst the honourees, Filipino Canadian Daryl dela Cruz garnered Top Honour for Community Builder Category 2017. Dela Cruz has been a longtime advocate of Surrey’s transportation and founded Skytrain for Surrey. He received Honourable Mention for the same category in 2013.

Daryl is the son of community advocates Joel and Narima dela Cruz. Narima was recognized in 2011 – Honourable Mention for Community Volunteer Category.

This year’s Honourable Mention – Community Builder Category  recipient was Connie Waterman. A Leader of the Year Award 2017 was awarded to Mike Mcnamara, a Surrey Firefighter for 22 years. Veteran street cop  Kalwinder Dosanjh received the Above and Beyond award.
