It pays to research yearly subscriptions for new deals

You can really save a lot of money when you take the time to research.

Today, I went from paying $1,200.15 CAD a year to paying only $10.37 CAD a year for a remote online subscription that I need for my business. That’s a savings of $1,189.78 and I have more features available to me.

When yesterday I noticed a $1,200.15 CAD charge on my credit card from “LogMeIn.com”, I thought it was some sort of scam. However, after looking into it, I found out that it was my yearly subscription for a remote desktop web browser called GoToMyPC.com – software I use for my businesses so I can log into 3 computers remotely from anywhere in the world.

Last year when GoToMyPC.com asked me about a renewal, I talked them into a 50% reduction in fees. I was too busy to question their prices and didn’t have time to do any research. This year, with a little more time to spare (because of self-isolating from COVID-19), I decided to do a little homework and take a look at other available options.

I discovered RemotePC.com. I couldn’t believe the difference in pricing and the good ratings. At the time of this writing, RemotePC.com offers a one user license to access 10 computers for $52.12 USD for the first year (normally $69.50 USD a year). GoToMyPC.com offers 2 computers for $66 USD a month (normally $83 USD a month). So currently, that would mean GoToMyPC.com would be $792 USD a year compared to RemotePC.com’s $52.12 USD a year. That alone is a difference of $739.88 USD.

On top of that, RemotePC.com is offering an additional 90% discount to anyone that was already subscribing to one of their competitors for a price of $6.95 USD for the year. That is a BIG difference from the $1,200.15 CAD (roughly $855.81 USD) that I was charged by LogMeIn.com.

The bottom line is we should all take some time to check over subscription options every year. Whether it be phone plans, TV, cable, internet or anything else. It really paid off for me this year. It may pay off for you too.

Tip: Usually when renewals are up or if I haven’t thought about it for a long time, I call my current service providers and tell them I’m shopping around at other places and want to know what they can do for me so that they can keep my business.
