In the Philippines: Lewd dancers grace provincial Liberal swearing in party

No one had ever unraveled nor traced the dance genius who pioneered the lewd choreography that appears to be standard fare among exotic dancers in Manila. But as far back as 2013, when the pop group Parokya Ni Edgar performed in a pizza venue in Surrey for a largely Filipino-Canadian audience, the Parokya dancers — who came with the band — likewise performed acts that aggressively suggests coitus and oral sex in their repeated pelvic thrusts which appears to be the principal movement of their dance routine.

In that event, the dancers brought the house down as all the spectators were encourage to participate, in varying degrees, to the wild orgy. Some of the participants were even born-again Christians.

One of those who attended the Parokya event told Metrovan Independent News she knows one of the dancers and even showed that dancer’s Instagram account. It had isolated clips of her rapid fire pelvic moves either as an exercise or as a dance routine in a club. “They are very active in their gym training,” she explained.

But yesterday in a bucolic town in the province of Laguna, a political swearing in affair of some 80 new political recruits to the Liberal Party shocked the young among them as a dancing group called The Playgirls started their sex dance routine to the tune of Twerk it like Miley.

The emcee introduced the act as a gift to a Liberal official celebrating his birthday.

Laguna Representative Benjamin Agarao Jr. was later defensively trying to justify the so-called “Tuwad na Daan” sexy dance that quickly spread in social media circles. It was performed during his 58th birthday celebration. As of press time, no one has admitted as to who was responsible for hiring the Playgirls.

According to rumors that swirled, the trio was purportedly a surprise gift from resigned Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino, who had earlier announced plans to vie for a senate seat in the coming 2016 national election.

Prior to the birthday celebration, which was held at Agarao’s residence in Barangay Patimbao in Sta. Cruz town, the administration standard bearer, Manuel “Mar” Roxas II, administered the oath-taking of new Liberal Party members from the province’s fourth district, which Agarao was representing

MMDA chairman Francis Tolentino drew flak on social media after he reportedly brought female dancers, who gave a lewd performance, after the swearing in of new Liberal Party (LP) members in Laguna.

The female dancers were brought on stage after the oathtaking, with the emcee repeatedly announcing that it was Tolentino’s “gift” to those who attended the event.

Roxas’ camp said they were surprised by the move, adding that Roxas had already left the venue by the time the dancers were on stage.

In a statement on his Facebook page, Tolentino denied that he brought the dancers as a “gift” for Agarao’s birthday. The manager of the Playgirls also denied the allegation saying that they were contracted by a certain Joanna.

“Please hear my side of the story about certain materials circulating online: I was just a guest at the birthday party. I did not bring any dancers/singers. The emcee probably got misinformed,” Tolentino said.

Meanwhile, netizens slammed the MMDA chief for the move, saying it was “disgraceful” and “offensive” to refer to women as “gifts.”

Women’s rights advocate Elizabeth Angsioco hit Tolentino for “using women for [his]political propaganda.”

“Chair Tolentino, you use women this way? This reveals your low regard for us. You are unworthy of ANY gov’t position!” she said in a tweet.

The impact of such an event, although viewed as nothing more than legitimate entertainment in the Philippines’ largely male macho culture, could alienate certain sectors of the electorate as it clearly indicates a brazen preference for partisan politics rather than adherence to a high moral ground.
