HOPE BEYOND THUNDERDOME TOUR 2016 To help Veteran PTSD Awareness

0

Every year, more military personnel & Veterans die from suicide than any other cause, including combat.

TV host and World Champion Tribute Artist Luisa Marshall as Tina Turner will be touring Canada from Vancouver Island, BC, to St John’s, Newfoundland in 2016 on her Canadian Veteran PTSD Awareness Tour.

Military Veterans, Firemen, Police and anyone that has been exposed to traumatic events are susceptible to being affected with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

PTSD is a mental illness that can develop after a person is exposed to one or more traumatic events, such as warfare, traffic collisions, terrorism, sexual assault or other threats on a person’s life. Symptoms include disturbing recurring flashbacks, avoidance or numbing of memories of the event.

FIREMEN and POLICE – are first responders to some of the most horrific accidents where families have all died in a vehicle or airplane crash.

MILITARY VETERANS – are exposed the horrific incidents during war and when they come home the can have a hard time adjusting to civilian life.

For some military, the battle continues at home:

Every year, more military personnel & Veterans die from suicide than any other cause, including combat.

Veterans who have difficulties with the transition to civilian life are the most vulnerable: feeling isolated from the world saps the strength they need to combat depression, post-traumatic stress, or substance abuse. This period after they leave service has also been shown as the critical point keeping our Vets from winding up on the streets.

“Veterans serve in the Military for Canadians then end up ignored on the streets? We can’t allow that,” says Luisa Marshall. “Let’s keep this discussion going and get the government to assist”.

LUISA MARSHALL’S UNITED NATIONS TOUR

Years ago, Luisa performed for the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in a grueling show tour that included war-torn Bosnia, Sarajevo and later the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) in Israel and Egypt. The most requested song on both tours was WE DON’T NEED ANOTHER HERO (THUNDERDOME). Luisa thinks back about the young military men she met.  “They were like babies to me,” Marshall said. “They need our help.”

It took years before she realized “THUNDERDOME” was a metaphor of the state they were in at the time, so she named the tour HOPE BEYOND THUNDERDOME.  “The title means there is hope beyond their current state and we need to help,” Marshall declared.

Luisa would like to raise awareness and in her own little way, in part, raise funds at the same time for Veteran or Fireman PTSD issues. Luisa has committed $5 of each ticket sold to go directly by default to the Veterans Transition Network (VTN) unless each city has their own PTSD cause.   Visit: https://vtncanada.org

VTN’S mission is to “make sure no Canadian Veteran is left suffering in isolation.” They offer Crisis & Support Services, Health & Symptom management, Psychologists and support from fellow PTSD Veterans.

Luisa and her husband Steve Marshall are traveling in their 40 foot Coach/RV that houses the sound and lights for the shows.

The tour starts off in Vancouver Island on March 3, 2016 then heads across Canada from Province to Province landing in Newfoundland early June.

If you know a Legion or Firemen hall anywhere in Canada that wants to support this initiative have them get ahold of Steve at 604-288-7664 or tinashow@gmail.com
